Scar Camouflage: Effective Same-Day Results

line

Scarring on the scalp can happen for many reasons. You may have had trauma to the head or surgery. However, at Edge Scalp Ink, we often find that a surgical hair transplant is the most common cause of scarring.

There are two types of hair transplant procedures you can get:

  • Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT) – This type of transplant will create a strip-like scar across either the back or side of your head.
  • Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) – This will create several small circular incisions leaving the recipient with small circular scars dotted across their head.

Unfortunately, because of the scarring left behind, this means it prevents any new hair from being able to come through.

Thankfully, scalp micropigmentation (or SMP) can help reduce that contrast between your scalp and hair, masking any unsightly scarring that may affect you.

The treatment area will extend beyond the scar tissue and we will apply the pigment potentially 1-2cm above and below the scarred area to effectively blend with the surrounding hair. As the pigment is applied to the skin, it will follow the pattern of the existing hair follicles.

With SMP, the needle is so small in size that it can replicate a single hair follicle, creating the illusion of a full head of hair. Your scar will be undetectable to the naked eye.

Other types of scars that scalp micropigmentation can help camouflage include Keloid, Hypertrophic and Hypotrophic.

Scalp micropigmentation can complete your hair journey and the experts at Edge Scalp Ink love being a part of that journey with you. We are the most sort after SMP clinic for scar camouflage in Bethesda, MD, serving people from Washington, DC, Northern Virginia and Baltimore.
