“My SMP looks natural, fits ME perfectly, and has given me a new level of confidence.” — What Our Clients Say
Posted on Google Michael Kapoor Ruben at Edge is a master at his craft - actually shocked more people aren’t using this. First time in many years that I have not had to worry about my hair in the back or hairline. Ruben answered all of my questions thoroughly, had excellent communication with me when I needed it, and he essentially erased my bald spots with his own scalp micropigmentation technique. After searching for the best scalp micropigmentation artist near me, Edge Scalp Ink easily rose above all their competitors in Maryland, DC, and Virginia. The only regret I have is that I didn’t visit him sooner. Happy 2024!Posted on Google Walter Pliszka Recently I had the pleasure of undergoing an initial Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP)in total of three sessions with Ruben and I'm thrilled to share my positive experience. From the moment I walked into the studio, I felt welcomed and at ease. The tattoo artist, with his exceptional skill and friendly demeanor, immediately put any apprehensions to rest. The procedure itself was comfortable, and the artist took the time to explain each step, ensuring I was well-informed and relaxed throughout. His expertise shone through, as he masterfully blended pigments to match my existing hair color. The results of the SMP procedure have been truly remarkable. The bald on the front of my head’s spot on my scalp, which once drew unwanted attention, has essentially disappeared! Still pending a couple more sessions to darken it a bit and fill in the hairline but the artist's attention to detail and dedication to creating a seamless look have already paid off. I am genuinely amazed by the transformation I've witnessed. Not only does my scalp appear fuller and more uniform, but my overall confidence has received a significant boost as well. I highly recommend this talented artist and the SMP procedure to anyone seeking a discreet yet incredible solution to hair loss. My sincere thanks to Ruben for his exceptional work and for already making me feel like a new person!Posted on Google Charlie Chiz Hi, So I was having a conversation with a friend mine about getting SMP and I wasn’t sure I wanted to go thru with it, and he suggested I go and see Ruben and man I’m glad I did… Ruben Was very professional, his place was very clean and he makes you feel very comfortable I could have fallen asleep doing the process And his work speaks for it self, extremely happy with the results. I never do reviews but for this experience it was a must !Posted on Google daniel chao Amazing experience! Ruben Diaz is very accomodating and knowledgeable. If you need SMP done I would highly recommend to go to Ruben. True artist at work!Posted on Google Rigoberto Velasquez Excelente trabajo, gracias!! Recomendadisimo.Posted on Google Sameh Elrahimy Ruben is highly recommended and i am super happy with the results. Punctuate, on time and does what he says he is going to do.Posted on Google A V Amazing experience from the results to the convenient location, to weekend hours to how awesome Ruben and Veronica are. They are The Best!!Posted on Google carlos gomez My hairline was receding bad and thinning. I was looking high and low on how to get my confidence back. Was looking through instagram and Google. And I found EDGE SCALP INK, Ruben Diaz is really nice and he will walk you through the process on how he does it; on how to shape your hairline and face with the micro scalp tattoo. It’s so realistic and blends in well with my face. It gave me my confidence back. And made me look younger than what I look for. Hairline builds a structure to your face! EDGE SCALP INK is the best llace to go to. If you want your confidence back I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this business ,Thank you so much Ruben!Posted on Google Code Guy Excellent Experience!!! Came to Ruben Diaz after a terrible experience with an SMP provider in Kensington MD. The last place I went was unprofessional and gave me a hairline I hated(was way too straight and the color chosen wasn’t right for me). Ruben was professional, upfront, and approachable, 3 qualities my previous provider didn’t have. Ruben was just a good guy. He was also easy to work with and did his best to accommodate me as an out of town patient. I actually traveled all the way from Roanoke VA to get my smp redone. As for my result, I’m Impressed with Rubens work. My hairline looks awesome!!! Ruben was able to soften my hairline and blend the smp with the hair I have left. And the result doesn’t look like smp. It just looks like I have a nice hairline and chose to shave my head. He gave me exactly what I asked for for an affordable price. Ruben knew exactly what to do to fix my smp. My face is framed much better and the smp enhances my look. I’ve already gotten compliments. Some actually asked me why I didn’t grow my hair out. The service I had gotten from Ruben was above and beyond my expectations. Guys If your feeling insecure about hair loss do yourself a favor and go a Ruben. You won’t be disappointed. If I could redo my smp journey I would only trust Ruben Diaz for the job, he’s that good.Posted on Google siddharth bhattacharya Veronica is absolutely awesome… and Ruben too… They do an amazing job. I highly recommend them for SMP treatment for you and your family.

How We Keep Your Hair Tattoo Natural, Never “Blocky”
- Hairline Planning: We shape your hairline around your facial features, current hair growth, hair loss pattern, and age.
- Pigment Selection: We match the pigment to your skin tone and natural hair color so it blends smoothly with your scalp.
- Layered Sessions: We build your hair tattoo gradually over two to three appointments to avoid a dark, flat, or “blocky” look.
- Final Adjustments: We refine the shape, density, and balance as the pigment settles between sessions.
- Aftercare and Touch-Ups: We’ll explain how to protect your results and maintain them with touch-ups as the pigment softens over the next three to five years.

Aftercare Guidance to Keep Your Results Looking Fresh
Following your SMP aftercare instructions helps your scalp heal properly and keeps the pigment in your hair tattoo looking even.
We’ll explain exactly how to care for your scalp after each session.
During the first few days:
- Keep your scalp dry for the first four days.
- Don’t rub, scratch, touch, or pick at the treated area.
- Avoid direct sunlight, tanning beds, swimming, saunas, steam rooms, and heavy sweating.
- Don’t apply sunscreen, moisturizer, hair products, or topical treatments unless your artist approves them.
Over the following weeks:
- Gently wash your scalp with lukewarm water and a mild cleanser after day four.
- Pat the area dry with a clean towel or let it air-dry.
- Allow any dryness or flaking to clear on its own.
- Use a fragrance-free moisturizer once your artist says it’s safe.
- Apply SPF 30 or higher after your scalp has healed to help limit fading.
Possible scalp micropigmentation side effects:
- Mild redness, tenderness, or swelling
- Temporary dryness, tightness, or light flaking
- Pigment that looks darker at first before softening
- Increasing pain, spreading redness, drainage, fever, or severe swelling that requires medical attention
These reactions are typically mild and improve as your scalp heals.
See a doctor if you experience worsening pain, spreading redness, increasing swelling, discharge, fever, or any other signs of infection.
When WIll You See Results After SMP?
You’ll notice a difference right after your SMP session, but the final look develops as your scalp heals and the pigment softens.
Here’s how your results may change over time:
- Immediately After Treatment: Your pigment may look darker and more defined, and mild redness may last 24–72 hours.
- Days 1–4: Your scalp begins healing while the pigment starts settling into your skin.
- Days 5–7: You can begin gentle washing, though your results may still look bolder than expected.
- Weeks 2–3: Dryness and flaking fade as the pigment takes on a softer, more natural look.
- Weeks 4–6: Your healed results become clearer, allowing us to identify any areas that need added density or refinement.
- Long Term: Your SMP will gradually fade over three to five years, and touch-ups can help restore its definition.
Everything You Should Know Before Booking
Are there any potential risks or complications with SMP?
SMP is generally safe when performed by a trained specialist using proper equipment and techniques. You may notice temporary redness, tenderness, swelling, dryness, or pigment that looks darker while your scalp heals.
Does the scalp micropigmentation procedure hurt?
Most clients describe SMP as mild scratching, pressure, or irritation rather than pain. Your comfort level may vary based on the treatment area and your individual sensitivity.
What factors should I consider before undergoing SMP?
Think about your hair loss pattern, preferred hairstyle, desired hairline, skin type, and the amount of coverage you want.
During your consultation, we’ll assess your scalp and recommend an approach that fits your goals.
Is scalp micropigmentation a worthwhile investment?
SMP can be a valuable option if you want long-lasting, low-maintenance coverage without surgery, medication, or daily concealers. Results can last three to five years before you need a touch-up.
Can a tattoo parlor perform scalp micropigmentation treatment?
A traditional tattoo artist may not have the training, scalp-specific pigments, or equipment needed to create realistic SMP results.
Choose a practitioner who specializes in scalp micropigmentation and knows how to design natural-looking hairlines and density.
