Aftercare Tips To Keep Your SMP Looking Fresh
Following the right SMP aftercare routine gives your scalp time to heal and helps your pigment settle properly.
We’ll walk you through what to do after each session, which may include:
For the first few days:
- Keep your scalp completely dry for about four days.
- Don’t scratch, rub, pick at, or repeatedly touch the treated skin.
- Avoid direct sun exposure, tanning beds, swimming, saunas, and activities that cause heavy sweating.
- Skip lotions, sunscreen, hair products, and other topical products unless your SMP artist tells you they’re safe to use.
During the following weeks:
- After the first four days, wash your scalp gently with lukewarm water and mild soap.
- Let your scalp air-dry or gently pat it dry with a clean towel.
- Don’t peel or pick at dry, flaky skin as your scalp heals.
- Add a fragrance-free moisturizer once your artist gives you the go-ahead.
- Once fully healed, use SPF 30 or higher to protect your scalp from sun exposure and premature fading.

- Mild redness, tenderness, or swelling shortly after treatment
